Supporting safety and service: MGU offering Rewarding Responders Grant to emergency responders

Agencies can receive up to $2,000 to help improve safety

Michigan Gas Utilities (MGU) focuses on safety and reliability each day, and wants to provide first responders the training and equipment needed to meet these goals as well. This spring, MGU and its charitable giving organization, the Wisconsin Public Service (WPS) Foundation, are offering the Rewarding Responders Grant to help improve public safety in its service area. Applications for the $2,000 grants are being accepted now through June 15.

Last year, MGU and the WPS Foundation awarded approximately $4,000 to the Hillsdale Township Fire Department and Allegan Fire District. Since 2015, MGU has partnered with the WPS Foundation to donate more than $33,000 to help first responders purchase numerous pieces of life-saving equipment including water rescue craft, thermal imaging cameras, an automated external defibrillator and firefighting helmets.

To receive a grant, emergency responders must demonstrate the equipment or training they will acquire is part of a well-planned effort to improve public safety. Organizations that received a grant in 2018 are not eligible to receive a grant again this year.
