Why do I have to pay a Reservation charge if I am now taking my gas supply from an alternative supplier?
The Michigan Public Service Commission recently granted MGU authority to collect a Reservation charge from all of its customers, both those who purchase their gas supply from the utility, as well as those who purchase their supplies from an alternative supplier. The reservation charge is designed to recover the cost of the utility serving in the role as Supplier of Last Resort (SLR) in the event that volumes which are scheduled to be delivered by the alternative suppliers do not arrive, for one reason or another. It also covers costs associated with gas storage and moving gas out of storage and into the distribution system when you need it - costs that don't go away when you switch to an alternative supplier. Your supplier will deliver a fixed amount of gas each day, all month long, but your usage may vary daily. The SLR protection and gas storage guarantee that you will receive all the gas you need every day, no matter what.

What if I have a billing disputes?
Call your alternative supplier if you have questions concerning your gas commodity charge (their name is printed on your bill). If you have questions concerning other charges that appear on your bill, you will still call MGU. If you do not receive a satisfactory response from MGU or your new supplier, contact the Michigan Public Service Commission.
